Van Rooy Properties wins National Maintenance Mania Competition

Van Rooy Properties Takes First Place

at National Maintenance Mania Competition

Excitement was apparent on Thursday, June 28 at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas. The first National Maintenance Mania Competition was getting ready to begin. Two Indiana teams – Herb Harr and Troy Shelby with Van Rooy Properties, and Mike Collins and Darren Sons with Edward Rose Companies – had qualified for the final competition.

Approximately 200 people gathered to watch top teams from all over the country compete in both timed events and the popular stock car race. Several Indiana companies as well as the Indiana Apartment Association staff were present to cheer and offer encouragement for our teams. IAA provided orange “Indiana Rocks”

t-shirts for everyone representing Indiana…we were the only state that had a cohesive group backing their winners.

Herb Harr and Troy Shelby, representing Van Rooy Properties, had the best time of 5:58 minutes –

the only team to compete with a time less than six minutes. The top prize, in addition to a trophy, included $15,000 in merchandise, gift cards and scholarships for both winners. CONGRATULATIONS to Herb and Troy – you did us PROUD!

Both Indiana teams had competed locally in under six minutes; unfortunately, in Las Vegas the Edward Rose team ran into an uncooperative garbage disposal connection early in the competition. That particular twist of fate added valuable seconds to an otherwise great time for Edward Rose. Though they did not place nationally, the fact that they qualified as one of the best teams in the country was quite an honor and testament to their strength as competitors. Congratulations to Mike and Darren as well…and there’s always next year.
